Earlier this month, Kathy Gynell, editor at The Conservative Woman, announced that due to censorship and lack of funding, the outlet would be closing down on 18 July. That day, sadly, has now arrived.
In the following, Gynell says goodbye to TCW followers and welcomes them to join her in continuing the fight elsewhere.

TCW’s 12-Year Culture War and A Not Quite Final Goodbye
By Kathy Gyngell, as published by The Conservative Woman (“TCW”) on 18 July 2026
What difference did we make? Well, we didn’t dent policy. All the destructive postmodernist and neo-Marxist thinking – campus-driven leftism, feminism, transgenderism, scientism, critical race theory, decolonisation and now Islamism – has dug ever deeper into the fabric of society. We didn’t stop this politically driven seepage but we did, I hope, create an unfettered platform for considered dissent. Importantly, we dared to dissent in an era of political correctness and in a culture of complaint.
And perhaps we were “quietly influential” in our uncompromising stance. One of TCW‘s writers wrote to me: “I regularly noticed TCW angles in the media and I suspect it played a role in giving an edge to GB News’s editorial outlook.”
I hope so. Not, sadly, over vaccines it didn’t, at the time when that really mattered. But I am sure we jolted some people out of their complacent oblivion as the country underwent a Maoist cultural revolution. Elite-driven and seemingly without violence, but still shocking in terms of social malaise and the collapse of ethics. Without doubt we also kept people sane – “a beacon of reason and sanity during the scamdemic,” one of many readers wrote to me. Letter after such letter since I announced TCW was closing down came in an incredible and unexpected outburst of gratitude.
What I am proudest of? We never let up on the BBC (thanks to David Keighley’s journalism and close monitoring of the biased and subversive state broadcaster) or any of the modern orthodoxies it pushed, from climate change to net zero, from radical feminism to transgenderism, open borders and Islamism. Nor have we ever let up on the polite right of the MSM [“mainstream” media], on their lack of principle and courage. Their failure to identify the threat to liberty and democracy posed by hyper-social liberalism on the one hand and multiculturalism on the other; their countenancing of nation-changing, uncontrolled mass immigration – which should have had every newspaper editor descending on Downing Street. Nowhere was their absence of courage more apparent than on lockdown, where journalists just shrieked for more and harder restrictions. Laura’s piece, ‘Liberty shackled and the future blighted: RIP Europe, 312-2020. We had a good run’ published in March 2020 (and republished in these pages today), was seminal and but the first of a run of her takedowns of the MSM’s very unjournalistic scaremongers. An MSM, who failed entirely in their role as the Fourth Estate, over both this and the only exit offered us from lockdown, mass vaccination, after “trials” they never bothered to investigate.
It is impossible to condense the 12 years of TCW into one final column. But I’ll give it a go. When Laura Perrins and I set out on our culture wars project (and it just wouldn’t have happened without Laura’s energy, flair and dynamism, so much younger than me yet sharing my thinking) our key gripe was the feminist assault on the married family, the daycare push, and the trashing of children’s needs and mothers’ instincts (as much by “modern” Tories as by Labour). The specious but persuasive idea that feminism was liberal and progressive – the idea that Cameron and May’s Tories nailed their colours to – needed unmasking.
With no “right-wing” platform interested in publishing such “reactionary” commentary we founded our own, launching it on International Women’s Day 2014 in a full-frontal assault. David Cameron had already taken a major swipe at marriage with his oxymoronic “Gay Marriage” Act. We knew it was not going to stop there. In the first week of publication, we reported on the tax siege on the one-earner married family, a siege that has never let up in all these years – a step-by-step murder of marriage and the family by the State, aided by a family court system in thrall to radical feminists, as our series on parental alienation has exposed over these last two weeks.
“We are on a one-way journey to crazy town and there is no escape” Laura wrote in 2017. She was right. We gave up looking for a final Scrutonian Tory interested in how to be a conservative. They were too busy bringing on the liberal revolution and its collateral damage: declining marriage, plummeting birthrates, of those born more and more out of wedlock, ever-rising abortion figures, the decriminalisation of crime, identity politics and victim hierarchies, deplatforming any critics of social liberalism as far right or racist – terms that terrified the Tories. A recipe for chronic state dependency, social malaise and a road to social and national suicide. And no moral leadership from the Church of England. The reverse.
But back in 2017 with Brexit won (or so we thought for two minutes) we still didn’t anticipate the sheer speed of the assault on our liberty and on democracy that followed, doubled down on by Starmer’s Southport-riots excuse for the Stasi crackdown that’s marked his two-tier two years in office. Culminating in Henry Nowak’s death at the hands of the police for the crime of racism he didn’t even commit.
Yet looking back, I can see the anti-democratic globalist runes were there for the reading once it was clear that Brexit was not going to be permitted. Once it became clear that the “anywhere” and their corrupt internationalist, open borders, morally relativist, neo-Marxist masters led by subversive billionaires such as George Soros, aided by the BBC and outriders like Hope not Hate, were determined to demonise and shut down dissent. Even if it meant waging war on the people.
Our field of concern expanded rapidly into this political and cultural arena. “Noticing,” as Paul Collits recently put it, shining a light on all those things the MSM chose not to focus on. Like the cross-Channel boats which started arriving in 2016 in an invasion our rulers could have nipped in the bud. Like the ever-expanding State, its tentacles everywhere, and the ever-diminishing private sector except for state-subsidised renewables thanks to the new net zero religion, that we were on to from the start.
As the “issues” grew in number so did our range of our writers – desperate for an outlet – and also our workload. The arrival of Margaret and Alan Ashworth and a very clued-up webmistress in September 2017 not just made this possible but soon had us punching above our weight. (The final member of our team, Priscilla, joined part-time a few years later to up our profile and our “comms.” She did!)
We didn’t let up – a gullible public was being taken in by Boris Johnson and his EU withdrawal agreement. We never fell for the tousled “wonder boy” image. For us, he was always closer to Mick Herron’s portrayal of the disgusting and shameless Peter Judd in his ‘Slough House’ series. Forever unflushable, chaos, death and destruction following in his wake, as his recent copy spinner antics in Ukraine proved yet again.
How, asked Daniel Miller, “did the political culture of a great nation degrade to the extent that it promoted such a man to a leader?” Then came the lockdown disaster which this same so-called liberal was responsible for.
While the majority of the population obediently clapped their way through this madness, justifying their own oppression in the manner of a loyal communist who finds himself in Stalin’s gulag, we at TCW never took our eyes off the ball. Particularly on the only exit from lockdown we were offered: mass vaccination with novel gene therapy products. We questioned its flimsy trial base and listened to Pharma experts who doubted its safety. We went on to investigate every egregious set of interests of the government’s dubious vaccine advisers and ministers who oversaw dodgy authorisation, and punishment for non-compliers. Readers’ emails in the last two weeks have rightly commended Paula Jardine and Sally Beck for their cutting-edge investigative journalism. We were blessed too with the sharp eyes of the former Times medical correspondent Neville Hodgkinson, that wonderfully defiant Professor of oncology, Angus Dalgleish, and indefatigable Dr. Ros Jones (whose final revelations about the health authorities’ complete disregard for children we publish today). Putting two fingers up to the establishment, we ran our amazing ‘Celebration of Dissent’ event at the Emmanuel Centre in February 2022.
Despite the censorship that followed, we battered on. With no disclaimers. We never let up on vaccine injury, reporting the officially published Yellow Card stats that the MSM studiously ignored. We made sure the voices of the vaccine-injured were heard from early on, when again the MSM turned a blind eye.
It’s troubling that so much of the dumbing down and deception of this period traces back to women – “management” women in post by virtue of positive discrimination all along the way of their careers, I suspect. Women who’d benefited from the abandonment of meritocracy and the marginalisation of men. How else are we to explain, with so many women in charge in public health, the Vaccine Task Force, the MHRA, the AstraZeneca vaccine, the Hallett Inquiry, the new state censor Ofcom, to say nothing of Parliament itself, the absence of sympathy for the injured or concern about the collateral damage of lockdown on children? What sort of women are these that feminism has propelled into the public space?
Many are the same women who push for assisted dying and abortion up to term, who don’t think marriage is necessary except for themselves, for whom parity is not enough and who, for all their talk about safeguarding, don’t give a stuff about children. Feminists who support Pride but don’t raise a peep about the Islamic patriarchy which covers up its womenfolk and holds vile sexual attitudes not just about “white trash” but with regard to the domination of their own women.
When I was interviewed by Die Weltwoche in December 2025, the interviewer assumed I would be delighted by the rise and rise of women to the top of Europe’s politics. He was uncomprehending when I made clear that I was not. Bar Giorgia Meloni, these are women who barely batted an eyelid as we imported young male Muslim migrants into Europe by the hundreds of thousands, women who have nothing to say about grooming gangs or the most toxic men in our society. Other, that is, than attack and demonise those who dare to protest against this threat to our safety and culture that yes, all started with a woman, one Angela Merkel.
These are the leftist women that government and the establishment have embraced who have scared away or replaced the rightist men. No wonder no one has lifted a finger about the Foreign Office and Home Office enabling of Islamic entryism that this former Ambassador reports. An entryism that is sanctioning mass irrational prejudice against Jews and Israel to boot.
So the mess gets messier. We have done our best to explain it over the years – what’s happened to our country, when and how it happened – and to warn.
And in our last weeks, warning that time is running out. For the country and for the right. Demographically and democratically. Trump Derangement Syndrome really doesn’t help. Another insanity. Another own goal. I am proud that I have supported the President through and through for the superhero he is. Because America, under his Presidency, is where any chance for defending the West remains; here our liberty hangs by a thread.
Now it past time for my thank yous. And this is where I get a bit emotional.
First to Margaret Ashworth, my deputy editor in all but name. For her and Alan’s skill, talent, loyalty and unremitting hard work. Waking up in the morning won’t be the same without her daily schedule update email. The many Ashworth fans will be delighted to know they have a new Substack called Ashworth & Ashworth , which you can find and follow HERE.
Secondly, to TCW‘s writers – a long list that’s a testament to how much this platform has been needed as an outlet – some of whom, like David Keighley, one of the most intelligent and principled men I know, have been with us from start to finish.
Finally, to TCW‘s loyal readers, especially those who put their money where their mouth was and sustained our ever-precarious finances to stay publishing this long, and those of you who have kept me on the ball. You know who you are – please keep in touch as the fight goes on with the new ‘Right Times with Kathy Gyngell Substack’ – where you’ll be able to find other TCW writers too.
So for now, it’s so long, farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, but not quite goodbye.
The site closes tomorrow. Current donors (up to our recent cancellation of their subscriptions) will be sent a limited-time code for free access to the TCW archive which goes behind a paywall by the end of next week.

…great article, enlightening about the background and progressive themes through the TCW’s duration and although i’d not been keeping up with the TCW, and i must include that it never disappointed, it was one of the most valuable sources out there, i am really sad to see it go…one thing concerns me in the above post is the faith expressed in Trump, and i discover me in utter disbelief at the prospect, i best read again, in the hope that i have misunderstood!… 🙏➕🙏… ps best of luck to Kathy and all involved into the future!..
TCW thanks for your courage and integrity. Best wishes for future enterprises.
Very sorry to see the demise of an extremely informative site.
It has been thoroughly appreciated.
Unfortunately I’m sure there are many others like myself who might struggle with the paywall.
However, my best wishes for the future.
Thank you, again.
Sorry to see it close but hope the concerns and fight for a moral, meritocratic British society based on Christian values will be taken up by the Restore Britain Party under the leadership of Rupert Lowe M.P.
Talking with an old socialist guy, we got onto the subject of Islam. I declared it a vile, primitive religion. Anti-feminist, homophobic and a killer to any one who talks badly of their pedophile god Mohamed.
He left his coffee and me, decaring I was full of racist crap. Hed previously called me a fascist.
I sent him a WhatsApp declaring that when the Left lose an argument they call that person a
Fascist.
Then they call him a
racist
Then they block him.
I told him ‘You fit that scenario to a tee.”
Which leads me onto the immense loss I feel now Kathy is closing TCW. I always felt that she was a trusted friend. Plus i felt at home with the commentators.
In fact TCW was my internet home.
Followed TCW for years from NZ. In the despairing May years I sent a note of encouragement to the team and really appreciated Kathy taking the time to reply. A wonderful source of courage, dignity and commonsense, sadly missed.
How absolutely devastating! I’m from Melbourne, Australia and EVERYTHING you have written about that’s happened in your beautiful country is happening right here, word for word! And the most horrifying thing is that most people around me, including my husband have no idea or do not want to know. We have the most disgusting and probably gay Prime Minister we have ever had who in the last 4 years of his prime ministership has done more harm to our beautiful and beloved country than any other prime minister has and we have two more years of this! Mass immigration, late term abortion, net zero crap, lawlessness, lack of housing for our young people and more has become the norm here, especially in Melbourne! All in the name of so called socialism! And the many women in high powered positions here who act like men with no feminine traits is absolutely heartbreaking – men need not apply! I could go on but you get the drift. I’m going to print this and see if I can get more people to wake up. Good luck in your future endeavours and thank you from the bottom of my heart – you all did everything you could. ❤️
